Crime Free Multi-housing

Getting everyone involved in preventing crime whether they are home owners or not.

As the Crime Prevention Unit was creating Neighborhood Watch groups, they found that people living in rental properties weren't involved in these groups. We found a program called Crime Free Multi-Housing in Mesa Arizona.

The Crime Free Multi-Housing Program is an international program which began in 1992 and has been implemented in 38 states, 3 Canadian Provinces and over 700 cities. In 1994, the City of Rochester became the first agency in the State of Minnesota to implement this program. Today, the program continues to grow and improve in our community.

Crime Free Multi-Housing is geared primarily toward educating complex owners and managers. This program is supported by the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce. When a new resident contacts the Chamber of Commerce, they will recommend apartment complexes that have participated in this program.

The Crime Free Multi-Housing Program will teach you:

  • Prevention and Applicant Screening
  • Drug Nuisance Abatement
  • The many resources available

The program is delivered in a unique three-part approach which ensures the crime prevention goal in a tenant-friendly atmosphere. When each phase is completed, a certificate of completion is awarded to the person who completed the training.

How do I get involved?

The Crime Free Multi-Housing Program is an on-going project for the Crime Prevention Unit. A minium of two training sessions are held each year. The registration fee for the class is currently $30. For information on the next class or to register, call Darrel Hildebrant at (507) 328-6890.
